Botanical name:Bougainvillea 'Barbara Karst'

The large amount of flamboyant color on this species creates a wonderful accent in a garden. Varieties can be in bush or vine form; colors vary. Once established, they need very little supplemental water. All varieties are susceptible to fost damage. The 'Barbara Karst" variety blooms bright red in full sun; more crimson if in shade. It blooms early and long. It is a good bloomer in the low desert.

This horticultral selection grows at a moderate rate to 2' x 4'. Flowers are blue in color, and appear winter to spring. The the leaves dark green, and highly aromatic. This plant makes a good ground cover, and its leaves can be used as seasoning in cooking.

This perennial will grow to 1' x 3'. It has gray-green leaves with flowers of various colors that bloom in summer and fall.

Silvery gray mounding shrub grows to 3' x 4'. Yellow daisylike flowers appear winter to spring. Short lived individual plants but will reseed easily. Good for naturalistic landscapes. Rapid growth following rain. Overgrown and fragile if overwatered. Seeds attract birds. Native to Sonoran & Mojave deserts.
